Your windshield is pretty tough, but even so, it can get damaged. You can end up with a chip in your windshield if something hits your windshield just right. You may think that a small chip is no big deal, however, that small chip can end up being a huge problem. If you get a chip in your windshield, you should get it fixed as soon as possible. What are your options when it comes to getting it fixed?
One thing you can do is to contact an auto glass repair company like Mr. Go-Glass. They will evaluate your windshield for you. They will decide whether or not your windshield needs to be replaced or if the chip can just be repaired. Many auto glass repair companies will come out to your house or place of business and do the evaluation and repair or replacement onsite. They will also generally work with your insurance company so that you may not even have to pay to get it repaired.
If you think that the chip is relatively minor, there are ways that you can repair it yourself. One of those is to use a windshield repair kit. Those kits have everything that you need in order to fix the chip. Generally, the kits consist of an epoxy or resin that you can inject into the chip. The epoxy or resin acts as a filler and will fill in the chip. The kit may also come with some kind of film that you should put on the chip as the resin or epoxy cures. Your windshield is actually a laminate, with two pieces of glass with adhesive sandwiched in between.
The resin or epoxy in the DIY kit will not only fill up the chip, it will also make sure that any air spaces that may have shown up in between the two pieces of glass because of the chip will also be filled in. It may take some work for you to get all the epoxy or resin down into the lamination so that it stays nice and solid and safe.
If you have a chip in your windshield, you can end up with it getting worse. Water could get into the chip and cause the lamination to fail. It could also cause the chip to get bigger. You have options to get it repaired so that you don't have to worry about that.Share
